Optical Photon Simulation with Mitsuba3

Co-author · arXiv, 2023 · for the RICH1 detector at CERN's Large Hadron Collider

Particle detectors are simulated photon by photon, which is slow. We moved optical photon propagation out of Geant4 and into Mitsuba3, an open-source renderer, with a custom plugin for emitting photons. I built the photon-to-scene pipeline: the C++ emitter, the detector geometry in CAD and the scene setup.

The University of Manchester

2020 to 2024
  • MSc Advanced Computer Science, 2023 to 2024. Neural networks, representation learning, text mining.
  • BSc Computer Science, First Class Honours, 2020 to 2023. Introduction to Programming 90%, Introduction to AI 85%.
  • Named entity recognition: improved R-BERT and an attention CNN-BiLSTM in PyTorch, reaching F1 86%.

About

My side is the part people actually use.

I've built and shipped AI products across iOS, Android, web and chat: streaming agent conversations, tool calling, per-user permissions, subscriptions and billing. I care about how an agent asks, shows its work and earns trust, because that decides whether people keep using it.

Pullit taught me as much about distribution and listening to users as it did about building. orbo.work is where I put all of it together, with Ahmed and Jay.

If something keeps falling through the cracks at your company, I'd love to hear about it.
